Last year, China's Singles Day generated an estimated US$238 billion of online sales in 36 days.
These are 2025 figures, shared to show the scale of this commercial event as the 2026 edition gets under way, with JD's sale open since October 12.
The total is an estimate from Syntun, a Chinese retail data firm, and it counts gross sales before returns. Read it as an order of magnitude rather than an audited number.
For readers outside China, the fairest yardstick is the whole American online holiday season: Adobe measured US$257.8 billion over two months, and Singles Day came within 8% of that total in five weeks.
Per day, Black Friday is still bigger, which raises a fair question: is a five-week festival easier for brands to win, or just longer to pay for?
My previous post, part 1 of this series, lists nine questions every planning team should ask before Double 11.
