In Ireland's 2025 presidential election, a deepfake video falsely depicted the eventual winner withdrawing her candidature, complete with fake footage of national broadcasters "confirming" the news. It spread in the final days before people voted.

Someone orchestrated it. But agents deployed it, amplified it, multiplied it across thousands of synthetic accounts, before any human fact-checker had finished their morning coffee.
