What If AI Hallucinations Were a Strategic Asset?

Everyone wants to “eliminate AI hallucinations.”

After completing Generative AI & AI Agent Organizational Strategy for Leaders (another excellent, practical class by Dr. Jules White, Vanderbilt / Coursera), I’m convinced that’s only half the story.

Hallucinations can be a strategic feature, if you contain them.

Think of them as COGNITIVE PROVOCATION: a way to manufacture dissent on demand, to push the boundaries.

In a controlled workflow, hallucinations help leaders:

· reveal unstated assumptions

· pressure-test narratives and incentives

· generate edge-case scenarios

· widen the strategic option set

Governance move that works: use two separate modes

· Divergence mode: invite wild hypotheses + “argue the opposite”

· Convergence mode: require citations, SME review, and a stop-loss gate
